Day #122 | May 02, 2018 – Stop Trying To Make Sense Out Of Their Nonsense!

Day #122 | May 02, 2018 – Stop Trying To Make Sense Out Of Their Nonsense!

“It’s not you; it’s me.” Remember that break-up line? Some of us need to think about our current jobs this way. It’s not you…it is really them! You continue to go in to work day after day trying to make sense out of clear absurdity in thinking, behavior, and practices of people in your organization. At some point in our growth, we chose to believe that the leaders of our organization know everything and they only make the right decision. In accepting that belief, it did two things to us: (1) it let us off the hook from having to think for ourselves and (2) it sometimes make us question our own ability and sometimes even our sense of worth. But I am here to tell you this morning that that are some employers that are truly the problem. In some situations…it is NOT you. So, do not for a second start to think that there is something wrong with you.  Sometimes, negative things that occur to you are merely signs of something more deeply systematic or culturally embedded into an organization. If you are experiencing a lot of nonsense on your job (I.e., micro-aggressions, discrimination, cultural incompetence, etc.), there are only two things that you really need to consider doing. First,  do not let it change your perception of your own worth. Second, decide if it is something that you can live with or not. There’s no judgement. If you cannot live with it, it means that this is your opportunity to make a change. And not all changes mean leaving an organization. Some changes just mean standing up for yourself. Today is a great day to consider doing something that makes sense to YOU.  Try it.

Sending you Love & Light,
