27 May Day 147 | My Career Path Is Not Wrong. It Is Just Different.
They really want you to see it their way, don’t they? Once and for all, get sick and tired of people pushing their version of a career path onto you. True, maybe you’ve had some twists and turns on your path. Maybe you’ve taken some scenic routes. Maybe you’ve even hit some dead ends. But you have not given up trying to find your own success. We know that you won’t give up. And for that, I am proud of you. Others may try and tell you that at your age you should have already found your path, but their version of a good career may not be for you. Allow that to be okay. Forgive people who leave you feeling less than the amazing soul that you are. Do not allow someone to make you feel bad for what you do not yet have. It is coming. Do not let someone tell you where you should be by now. There is no silver bullet. There is no golden path. Some people suffer through many trials and errors before they stumble upon a great career and some people remain loyal to a mediocre job. Being employed does not equate to one person being better than another. Even those with the best of intentions miss how their criticism of you is only a distraction and not a motivation. The next time someone crosses your path and offers you advice or feedback that leaves you feeling low, be sure to say to them, “My career path is not wrong. It is just different. And if you cannot stand beside me and inspire me, then please move out of my way.” And keep looking and moving forward. That is all you need to do. Trust me.
