Day 161 | Confront Limiting Beliefs With The Adult Truth

Day 161 | Confront Limiting Beliefs With The Adult Truth

We all have deeply held beliefs about ourselves and our abilities. No one is exempt. Some of these deeply held beliefs create a strong self-esteem and ultimate success for us. Some of these deeply held beliefs create self-doubt and limitations. And therein lies the challenge. What are your limiting beliefs? What are those long held beliefs that you have carried around about your own ability to be, do, or have greatness? Pause and reflect on that question for a moment. I am grateful to have been able to participate in a workshop yesterday led by coach and trainer, Patrick Dougher, who said, “Confront limiting beliefs with the adult truth.” That was an impactful statement to me. He went on to explain, and I paraphrase, that some of our limiting beliefs were written within us, downloaded to our hard drive, usually between the ages 12-18 years old. These limiting beliefs were written within us by our teachers, loved ones, strangers. It, honestly, could have been anyone. It could have been intentional; it could have been unintentional. The messages could have been false, but they also could have been true—at least at the time. And now 10, 20, 30 years later, we carry these beliefs with us as an adult.  Even if they were true as a child, they are probably no longer true as an adult. And because of this, it is our job to confront these beliefs, as Patrick Dougher stated, with the ADULT truth. So many of our beliefs have prevented us from applying to better jobs, asking for a raise, and even speaking up at work. These beliefs prevent us from building great relationships and networks. They prevent us from taking care of and investing in ourselves. It is time to confront those beliefs now, remove those emotional blocks and move in the direction of your best career and life. Save your emotional identity. Be an inspiration to others. Live your best life now.
