Day 181 | Learn New Ways Of Seeing Yourself

Day 181 | Learn New Ways Of Seeing Yourself

We have created all of these narratives about who we are and what we are and are NOT capable of doing. Have you noticed? Catch yourself the next time you hear yourself saying to another person, “I don’t LIKE that,” or “I’ve never been able to DO that,” or “That’s NOT for me,” or, “That’s just NOT how I’m built,” or even, “I know my limits and that is one of them!” We say these things so quickly, almost like some auto-responder coming out of our minds and then our mouths. But how do you know it is true? EVEN if it were true for you as a child, how do you know that it is still true for you as an adult? What an old and antiquated way of viewing yourself. You must become aware of what limiting stories you are telling yourself about yourself. Learn new ways of seeing yourself. I hear people tell me that they are not leadership material? Well, how do you know if you’ve never been a leader? Some others tell themselves that they could never possibly write a book, or buy a house, or get a promotion. Have you tried? Some people will say, well, I’m not an affectionate person. Well, does it take a degree, certification, or act of God to BECOME affectionate? NO. If you do ANYTHING long enough, you will make it a new habit. And that is all we are doing here, replacing old, un-useful thoughts, narratives, and habits (about who we are and what we are capable of doing) with value-added thoughts, narratives and habits. If you are unsure of what narrative loops in your mind about your limitations, ask a close friend or your partner. I’m sure they can tell you quickly because they’ve heard it enough. And once you hear it, ask yourself – “Where did I get this narrative from and was it ever or is it STILL the truth about me?” You will find your world opening up to brand new possibilities if you change the way you see yourself. Try it. You won’t regret it.
