Day 183 | The First Day Is ALWAYS The Toughest!

Day 183 | The First Day Is ALWAYS The Toughest!

The reason most people never create new habits is because nobody wants to have to “make it through” the VERY FIRST DAY. The first day of change is always the toughest because it requires you to be uncomfortable. It requires you to do the opposite of the behavior that got you where you are today. And to most of us, opposite equals unnatural. And we DISLIKE doing “the work.” Trust me, no judgement; I understand. I’m am on DAY ONE of a 90-day (or maybe 30-day, still haven’t decided) personal challenge which requires me to develop new behaviors in order to meet my goals. I always find that if I can get through day one, then I’m usually home free. It is too simple to push back a start date, or even to justify going back to the original behavior. But here is what helps. Knowing that in 7 days, 15 days or even 21 days, I will be much further along than when I originally started—and maybe, just maybe, I may even begin to see positive results from the new behaviors I’ve implemented. If you want a different outcome, you must be willing to adjust your behaviors—add new inputs. You must be willing to create new habits. And you must be willing to start now. Whether you are trying to change on-the-job behaviors in order to get a promotion, or you are trying to change personal habits in order to drop a few inches on your belly, just muster up enough diligence and perseverance to make it through your FIRST day. Then use that same diligence and perseverance to make it through day two, day three and day four. Remember, you’ve got this! You will win! You will come out on top! This is only the first day, but it will change the game for you. Keep moving forward.
