10 Jul Day 191 | If You Look Back, You Are Going To Go Back…
One of the hardest parts of my job as a D&I Career Coach is to help clients stop living in their past. It is almost as if the prism through which they view the world today and make decisions today is based on what occurred in their past. Decisions that are made are rooted in fear. And this fear (held long enough and deeply enough) becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. There is such a cycle to all of this. . Have you ever attempted to look behind you and walk forward at the same time? As funny as that image seems, that is how many of us are living emotionally. We are trying to walk forward, but keep looking back. Living this way ensures you will stumble over objects, bump into walls, and even walk over cliffs. Whether at work or at home, you must break yourself free from thoughts of your past. Or at minimum recognize those thoughts, feelings, and emotions. Lao Tzu says, “If you are depressed, you are living in the past. If you are anxious, you are living in the future. If you are at peace you are living in the present.” Live in the present moment. Make decisions in the present moment. And watch your life bloom. Keep moving forward.
